It was a peaceful day in the Serengeti.
Kion and his friends were doing a patrol in Hapuna Valley.
"It's been pretty quiet lately" Bunga said. .
Kion glanced at Ono.
Ono nodded and took to the sky.
He returned a second later and settled down on Beshte's back.
"What'd you see, Ono?" Kion asked.
"Jasiri's at Broken Rock" Ono reported.
Beshte and Kion exchanged a glance.
"Something must be wrong" Kion murmured.
He led his friends to Broken Rock.
When they reached Broken Rock, Kion found Jasiri waiting for him.
He raised his tail in greeting.
"Hi Jasiri" Fuli called.
Jasiri glanced up.
"Hello everyone." She said.
Kion padded forward.
"Is something wrong?" He asked.
"Dad passed away last night." She said.
Kion exchanged a glance with Fuli.
"I'm so sorry, Jasiri" Fuli said kindly.
"I thought you'd like to know" Jasiri said.
Kion placed his tail on Jasiri's shoulder.
"Do you need anything?" Kion asked.
Jasiri shook her head.
"We're fine" Jasiri said.
"You'd better go, Jasiri" Beshte said gently.
She turned and bounded off.
"Janja's the leader of the hyenas" Kion said.
Fuli curled her tail around his shoulders.
Meanwhile, Kata had met up with Nita and Mari in their cave.
She was settled down amongst the moss.
"I'm glad Mom let us spend time with you" Nita said.
Kata's eyes hardened as she watched Sarafina settle down outside the den.
"What's wrong, Grandma?" Nita asked.
Kata shook her head slightly.
"I'm fine, Nita" she said.
Nita leaned over and nuzzled Mari's cheek.
"Papa and Nana took Mom on a hunt" Nita said.
"Nita, why do you call them that?" Kata asked.
"Because I love them" Nita answered.
"They aren't related to you" Kata pointed out.
"Yes they are, Grandma" Nita said.
Kata's claws sank into the moss underneath her.
Suddenly, Sarafina padded into the den.
Nita glanced up excitingly.
"Hi Nona" Nita said.
Sarafina bent down and nuzzled Nita.
"How are you, Nita?" She asked.
"I'm fine" Nita answered.
Sarafina's gaze softened as it rested on Mari.
She bent her head and rubbed her muzzle against Mari's cheek.
"Hello Sarafina" Kata said.
Sarafina inclined her head with forced politeness.
"Hello Kata, how are you?" She asked.
"I'm as well as I can be." Kata muttered darkly.
"Where's your mother, Nita?" Sarafina asked.
"She's on a hunt with Nana and Papa" Nita said.
Kata muttered something under her breath.
Sarafina settled beside Nita.
"Would you like to hear a story?" She asked.
Nita nodded eagerly.
Kata leaned over and placed Marigold in Sarafina's paws.
"I'm going to go hunting" Kata said.
"Bye Grandma" Nita said brightly.
She snuggled closer to Sarafina.
Kata stood up and stalked off.
