Information[]
Okapis have been described as strange-looking creatures that resemble giraffes, zebras, and oryxes. Their tongues are blue-black. A full grown okapi can get up to 5 or 7 feet tall. Adult males live alone, but the mother and calf live together.
Although it looks like a cross between a zebra and an antelope, the okapi is actually the only living relative of the giraffe. Okapis are shy animals, found in Central Africa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Zaire in the Ituri Forest.
Okapis are herbivores that feed off of leaves, buds, grasses, fungi, ferns, and fruits. They are primarily diurnal animals and are related to giraffes. It is the national animal of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and was first discovered in 1901.
